Oops, I totally forgot to address the thrill-packed conclusion of my little adventure building new shelves in the family room. They’re done. See them here on the right of the snapshot, and yes, they’ve sized specifically for DVDs. What took all the time was building the window framing and trim, which are hard to see here in the sunlight.
Nope, I’m on to the corner shelvings, which I originally built many, many years ago, and which I’ve decided have to be completely rehabbed top to bottom. The originals had holes drilled so the shelves could be moved, which they never were, and the new ones will be permanent. Plus some assorted electrical and wiring work, and when that’s done, on to the floor “treatment.”

Looks very nice, Burl. Good job!
If I were you, I wouldn’t install carpeting for the floor, as you have a dog. And ceramic tile cracks easily. I hired American Carpet to install KARNDEAN in my kitchen and bathrooms. Indestructible, dirt and bacteria resistant. You should look into it.
